Located on the southern coast of Islay, Laphroaig has developed one of the most distinctive identities in Scotch whisky, renowned for its combination of powerful peat smoke, medicinal character, maritime salinity and underlying sweetness. The 15 Year Old occupies an intriguing position in the range, with the additional maturation softening some of the intensity associated with younger Laphroaig while developing greater depth and balance. Tasting Notes:
The aroma opens with vibrant citrus, particularly orange zest and grapefruit, before developing into tropical fruits, soft vanilla and dried hay. Laphroaig’s characteristic peat smoke sits firmly underneath, accompanied by coastal notes and a subtle savoury quality. The palate is wonderfully balanced, with smoke and sea salt leading into cracked black pepper, warming spice and gentle sweetness. Vanilla and fruit provide a softer counterpoint to the medicinal peat, while 15 years of maturation creates a fuller and more rounded texture. The finish is long and distinctly maritime, with lingering peat smoke, gentle tannins and coastal salinity joined by tropical fruit, subtle sweetness and warming spice.
