Released in 2026 as the third chapter of The Macallan's prestigious TIME : SPACE Collection, this remarkable 20 Year Old expression celebrates the distillery's deepening relationship with the historic Valdespino bodega in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

What makes this release particularly significant is its unique maturation journey. Having spent two decades developing in carefully selected sherry-seasoned oak casks, the whisky underwent an additional marrying period in casks seasoned with sherry from The Macallan's own Valdespino bodega. This marks the first Macallan expression to benefit from the distillery's newly established control over this important aspect of its sherry-cask production.

The result is an extraordinarily rich and sophisticated Speyside single malt, showcasing layers of sherry-soaked raisins, Medjool dates, dark chocolate, caramelised nuts and warming spices. Its beautifully developed character reflects the remarkable influence of carefully managed oak maturation, while retaining the elegance and complexity that have established The Macallan among the world's most celebrated single malt whiskies.

Established in 1824, The Macallan has become one of Scotland's most internationally recognised single malt whisky distilleries, renowned for its exceptional oak casks, distinctive spirit character and longstanding relationship with the sherry-producing region of Jerez de la Frontera.

The TIME : SPACE Collection was introduced as part of The Macallan's 200th anniversary celebrations, exploring the relationship between time, craftsmanship and the remarkable transformation of spirit through maturation.

This 20 Year Old Sherry Cask release represents a particularly significant milestone in that journey.

Following The Macallan's investment in the historic Valdespino bodega and associated cooperage operations in Jerez, the distillery has gained greater involvement in the production and seasoning of the oak casks used to mature its whisky.

For this expression, carefully matured whisky was married in a selection of the first 200 casks seasoned at Valdespino under The Macallan's ownership. Crafted in Jerez and filled in Scotland during the distillery's 200th anniversary year in 2024, these casks introduce an additional dimension of sherry influence to an already mature and complex single malt.

Its presentation is equally distinctive. The circular decanter symbolises the continuous passage of time, while the warm yellow presentation box draws inspiration from Palomino grapes and the golden sunlight of Andalusia.

A remarkable expression that celebrates the enduring relationship between Scotland and Spain, combining two decades of maturation with a new chapter in The Macallan's approach to exceptional sherry-seasoned oak.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Wonderfully rich and indulgent, opening with a generous combination of sherry-soaked raisins, ripe figs and luscious Medjool dates. Sweet frangipane and golden cinder toffee gradually emerge, accompanied by delicate caramelised nuts and the luxurious aroma of dark chocolate truffles. As the whisky develops, warming cinnamon, aromatic star anise and gentle ginger spice introduce additional depth, creating a beautifully layered bouquet that balances concentrated dried-fruit sweetness with sophisticated sherry-cask complexity.

Palate: Opulent, full-bodied and beautifully textured, revealing an extraordinary concentration of dried fruits, including juicy sultanas, rich dates and sweet apricots. Indulgent ginger cake and dark treacle toffee form the centre of the palate, complemented by vibrant bramble jam and luxurious chocolate-coated cherries. As the flavours develop, warming cloves and cinnamon sticks introduce an elegant spice character, while bittersweet cocoa nibs and polished oak provide structure and balance. The whisky's extended maturation is evident in its remarkable integration, allowing the generous fruit sweetness, warming spice and mature oak to unfold with exceptional harmony.

Finish: Long, warming and beautifully sophisticated, with lingering aromatic wood spices and a delicate suggestion of freshly brewed espresso. Gentle oak gradually becomes more prominent, accompanied by subtle dark chocolate and the fading sweetness of dried fruits. The finish remains elegant and persistent, leaving a beautifully balanced combination of seasoned wood, delicate spice and mature sherry-cask richness.
