The “Far East of Peat” series was created to showcase the character of heavily peated Japanese whisky while paying homage to traditional smoky Scotch styles. Produced by Wakatsuru Shuzo’s Saburomaru Distillery in Toyama Prefecture, the series has become highly regarded for its powerful peat influence combined with elegant Japanese craftsmanship. Saburomaru itself is one of Japan’s oldest whisky distilleries and is particularly known for its experimental approach to heavily peated whisky production and the use of unique cast pot stills.

Tasting Notes:
Intense waves of earthy peat smoke and charred oak open alongside coastal salinity, grilled citrus and subtle medicinal notes. The palate is rich and oily, delivering smoked malt, black pepper, dark caramel and roasted nuts balanced by hints of seaweed, spice and sweet vanilla. The finish is long, warming and smoky, with lingering ash, toasted barley and maritime peat character creating a powerful yet refined Japanese whisky experience.
