Bottled at cask strength, this heavily peated Japanese single malt showcases the distillery’s distinctive smoky character combined with elegant maturation and exceptional balance. Inspired by tarot symbolism and Japanese artistry, “The Emperor” represents authority, structure and strength, continuing the cult status of the Saburomaru series among collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.

Saburomaru Distillery, located in Toyama Prefecture, is renowned for producing some of Japan’s most heavily peated whiskies and for pioneering the use of the world’s first cast copper pot still, known as the “ZEMON” still. The “The Emo” series has become highly sought after due to its bold artistic labels, tarot-inspired themes and limited allocations, with each release representing a unique personality and flavour profile.
Tasting Notes:
A rich wave of earthy peat smoke and charred oak opens alongside sea salt, dark chocolate and roasted malt. The palate is powerful and oily, delivering notes of smoked citrus, black pepper, caramelised sugar and gentle medicinal spice balanced by sweet vanilla and toasted nuts. The finish is long, warming and intensely smoky, with lingering embers, maritime salinity and elegant oak spice creating a bold yet refined Japanese whisky experience.
