Founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington, Signatory Vintage has established itself as one of Scotland's most respected independent bottlers, renowned for selecting exceptional whisky stocks and presenting them with minimal intervention. Its portfolio encompasses some of the rarest and most mature expressions available from Scotland's historic distilleries, including whiskies distilled decades before Signatory Vintage itself was established. This remarkable Old School 50 Year Old was selected to celebrate the golden anniversary of Kirsch Import, the renowned German whisky importer founded in 1976. The release creates a particularly meaningful connection between the year Kirsch Import began its journey and the year this whisky was distilled. While the originating distillery remains undisclosed, the whisky represents an increasingly scarce style of mature Scotch, produced during an era when traditional distilling practices and long-term cask maturation shaped some of Scotland's most celebrated expressions. After 50 years in oak, the spirit has developed a remarkable balance between mature fruit, delicate malt sweetness, refined wood character and a gentle suggestion of smoke. A fitting tribute to five decades of whisky appreciation, independent bottling and the enduring traditions of Scottish distilling.

Tasting Notes:

The aroma is beautifully mature and sophisticated, opening with delicate honey, ripe orchard fruits and soft vanilla, accompanied by subtle notes of polished oak and old-fashioned malt. Gentle dried fruits and a delicate herbal character gradually emerge, while a faint suggestion of smoke adds an intriguing layer of complexity to the elegant bouquet. The palate is wonderfully refined, revealing soft caramel, honeyed malt and mature fruit alongside delicate toasted nuts and beautifully integrated oak spice. Subtle woody notes provide structure, while a restrained smokiness introduces depth without overwhelming the whisky's gentle sweetness. The extended maturation creates a composed and rounded character, with the oak influence complementing rather than dominating the delicate spirit. The finish is long, elegant and increasingly dry, with lingering honey, soft malt and seasoned oak gradually giving way to gentle spice, delicate herbal notes and a faint trace of smoke. A sophisticated and beautifully mature expression that captures the elegance and individuality of traditional Scotch whisky after five remarkable decades in oak.
